About The Vancouver Peoples' Summit
The Vancouver Peoples' Summit is our time to send a message to the G8/G20 leaders meeting in Toronto June 25 to 27.
We're part of At The Table, a global movement of civil society groups calling on citizens everywhere to "take their place" at the G8/G20 Summit tables.
2009 was a big year for global action. AVAAZ, 350.org, TckTckTck and others mobilized people around the world to call for strong leadership on climate change at the Copenhagen talks.
Here in Vancouver, activists and organisers from a wide range of communities came together to organise Bridge to a Cool Planet -- a celebration of our common concern and the strength that lies in working together.
Many of the groups that worked on Bridge to a Cool Planet have come together again to organise the Vancouver Peoples' Summit. This year, along with some new partners, we're reaching out to expand the network even farther.
Our goals:
- We will send a strong message to world leaders meeting in Toronto: we want action to end poverty, stop climate change, and create a global economy that works for everyone.
- We will build bridges between Vancouver’s cultural communities as well as environmental and social justice movements to increase understanding of our common concerns and the strength that lies in working together. Activism is all about making new friends!
- We will create an exciting venue where the public can find out about the things they can do to help build a better future -- at home, in their community, and around the world.
- We will keep it fun, welcoming and all inclusive, because creative things happen when you mix like minded people together and throw a big party.
If you agree with what we're doing, we welcome you to get involved.
